The Brookings Institute has recently released a study pointing out misinformation and misconceptions about contraception as a key factor in the rising number unintentional pregnancies. They say that increased access to education and family planning services for women will reduce unintended births and those children’s lives. “We find that intentionality status has a large impact on a child’s later success. Mistimed, and especially unwanted, children have much poorer life trajectories than those that were planned” said the researchers who wrote, Improving Children’s Life Chances Through Better Family Planning. This report suggests that simple information on the proper uses and forms of contraception available will help improve women and children’s lives. Researchers at the Social Genome Model have directly linked unintended childbearing to children’s later success in life. Our CEO Brenda “Bré” Thomas says that this research underscores and points to the “critical value that family planning provides to women, as well as men, in helping them make educated choices and decisions that can pay incredible dividends for the health of both the mother and the child.”
